New Students

Classes will be conducted throughout the year in four main sessions, fall, winter, spring and summer.   New students are accepted at the beginning of each session.  Ages groups are still to be determined, so please contact us if you are interested and let us know your age or the age of your child.  As an art form, and as a means of self defense, Isshin-ryu will accommodate a wide range of body types, and levels of athleticism.

Every student is unique so while we learn as a group, we only compare ourselves today to ourselves yesterday.

New Student Handouts

Students for our first class will need a white gi, a white belt, Isshin-Ryu patch sewn over the heart, the American flag patch on the left shoulder, and a yin/yang patch on the right shoulder on the first day of class.  Subsequent students must have these items before they can be promoted to green belt.  The bar is going to be a little higher for the first class, as they will be ahead of everyone who follows, and thus the sensei will need to eventually count on them to help teach newer students when they are ready.

If you live in the East Bay, you should consider Isshin-ryu dojo in Berkeley, as Daniel is a great guy and his dojo is probably more convenient for you.

Inerested? Please contact us if you are interested in learning Isshin-ryu karate so we can plan class times.

Can’t Wait? Also contact us if you would like to set up private lessons before classes start in March 2012.

“The test of a good teacher is not  how many questions he can ask his pupils that they will answer readily, but how  many questions he inspires them to ask him which he finds it hard to answer.”

Just wondering if any of your students that are in the brown or black belt rank would like to spar with me. I need different people to practice technique with to determine effectiveness. Or if you yourself will spar wit me and share and exchange information about our art. I study Isshin-ryu also, Thanks.

Hi John, you’re name seems familiar. Have we met? Did you used to live in the Berkeley / Oakland area?
